The Excavation Safety for the Competent Person course is designed to educate workers about the hazards associated with trenching and excavation work. Participants will be able to identify potential hazards and what steps can be taken to avoid unsafe conditions. Participants will learn OSHA Competent Person requirements for excavations, soil analysis, how to choose protective systems, and general jobsite hazard awareness.

By the end of this course, participants will be able to: 

  • Identify common excavation hazards
  • State competent person requirements
  • List appropriate PPE
  • State steps to avoid unsafe conditions

Language:   This course is taught in English.   

Target Audience:  Any worker acting as the Competent Person on the jobsite, those performing safety and health evaluations or training, site supervisors, and those interested in learning about Excavation safety.

Prerequisites:  None

Minimum Class Size:  3

Maximum Class Size:  40

Course Length:   8 hours
