Electricity has long been recognized as a serious workplace hazard. Whether you work directly with electricity (qualified person) or around it, the potential for electric shock, electrocution, fires, and explosions exist. Some workers are completely unaware of the potential electrical hazards present in their work environment, which makes them more vulnerable to the danger of electrocution. The Electrical Safety in Construction course covers the most frequent causes of electrical injuries, including, contact with power lines, lack of ground-fault protection, path to ground missing or discontinuous, equipment not used in manner prescribed, and improper use of extension and flexible cords. Additional information is presented on NFPA electrical worker safety requirements and lockout/tagout.
