Types of shoring and testing methods are also discussed.  Hands-on exercises allow students to use practical instruments such as penetrometers, torvane shears, and engineering rods.

By the end of this course, participants will be able to: 

  • Describe the relationship of soil to the stability of shored and unshored slopes and walls of excavations
  • Describe different types of shoring
  • Apply testing methods to soils

Target Audience:  Any worker acting as the Competent Person on the jobsite, those performing safety and health evaluations or training, site supervisors, owners, those responsible for excavation and/or trenching, and those interested in learning more about excavation, trenching and soil mechanics.
